How can we design educational science activities within a contemporary art framework, building bridges that help us to explore the intersections between art and science?

ArtScience activities within the framework of the Laboratory Space of the Arts Santa Mònica cultural centre and in dialogue with two exhibitions: Living Systems. Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau and Invisible Fields. Geographies of Radio Waves.

Living Systems. Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau

Living Systems. Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau was the first retrospective exhibition of this artistic couple. Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau are two of the most renowned international and innovative artists in media art and interactive art. Their work develops intuitive and natural interactive interfaces through they apply the principles derived from the theory of living systems in relation to ecology, artificial life and the sciences of complexity. La Mandarina de Newton collaborated in the design, production and implementation of the educational workshops Fractals, It’s Not All in the Genes and Phototropism. These three workshops were closely related to the pieces Eau de Jardin, Life Spaces II, A-Volve and Phototropy.

Invisible Fields. Geographies of Radio Waves

Invisible Fields. Geographies of Radio Waves was an art and science exhibition held in the Laboratory Space of the Arts Santa Mònica cultural centre. The exhibition’s educational offer consisted of three educational workshops: Electromagnetic Spectrums, Let’s Build Antennas!, and Mini-FM, which were designed, produced and implemented by La Mandarina de Newton. The workshops fostered creativity, curiosity and experimentation. They invited the participants to observe different phenomena related to the concepts of the exhibition, to conduct experiments on these concepts, to make their own creations and to improve skills such as observation, documentation, experimentation, prototype creation, reflection and communication.
